Answer: yes for the gas boiler, no for the electric water heater.

The annual inspection is mandatory for the gas boiler (mainly because of possible carbon monoxide fumes), but not for the electric water heater. It is therefore not legally necessary to subscribe to a maintenance contract or to bring a heating engineer to inspect your installation. But nothing prevents you from doing it anyway, or even inspecting your installation yourself, to make sure everything is working well. How to do ? Inspect the anode and the resistor to see if they need to be changed. Descale the appliance once a year. It is also recommended to change the oil every 3 years approximately, and to change the safety group every 5 years. But then again, nothing compulsory.
