At what period, and how to undo them from their bindings?
Your shutters (whether wooden, traditional, etc.) must be maintained regularly. We do not mean by that, every month, but because of being regularly subjected to bad weather (wind, snow, sun, rain), it is important to renovate them every 5 years. You also have to take into account the climate of your place of residence: by the sea, the shutters are damaged much faster. That said, you have to be careful that the wood doesn't crack or blister, and start thinking about renovating after 2-3 years. For this, you will have to unhook your swing shutters, a rather simple operation. The shutters are held by hinges: it will therefore simply be necessary to lift them. Some can be fixed by an English hinge. In this case, either you unscrew your hinge, or you renovate your shutters on site, if the climate is suitable.
Using brushes, a painter's knife, scrapers, a sanding block and a vibrating sander, you will spread the chemical stripper, the treatment product you have chosen, the wood pulp, stain and anti-rust lacquer. The shutter must be covered evenly, so as not to be more pickled and treated on one side than the other. Do not forget to put on gloves, because these products are extremely toxic. They can go as far as to cause lesions on the skin. Working outdoors is essential, as the vapors from the materials are very dangerous for the lungs. In addition, after covering the floor to protect it, leave your products to work for at least a quarter of an hour.
Strippers and wood pulp?
Strippers are still just as bad for the human body, even if they are much less so than before. However, their effectiveness is no longer to be proven. The old paint goes away very quickly under the action of the stripper. With a spatula, just scrape the paint that begins to blister, do not forget the nooks and crannies, and voila! Presented in the form of gel, liquid or aerosol, you will choose the stripper which corresponds best to your surface. On the wood pulp side, it is not there to remove the paint, but to repair the imperfections of the wood, and prevent the weather from continuing to gnaw at it. Once the wood pulp has been applied, you have to wait for it to dry and then sand it down. The wood of the shutter will therefore be smooth and uniform. Once these steps are completed, all you have to do is stain the shutters, and you will have a brand new pair of shutters. This is the renovation of equipment!
