The "Creations & Know-how" fair, the biggest meeting of enthusiasts of "Do It Yourself", will be held from 13 to 17 November 2013 in Paris, Porte de Versailles. On this occasion, a study by sociologist Ronan Chastellier highlights the positive impact of "do it yourself" on French morale.

Creativity, a widely shared skill

53% of French people feel "creative", or more than 26 million people. Contrary to popular belief, this creativity is expressed as much among men (53%) as among women (54%). As for the younger generations, they consider themselves more creative, with 61% of 18-34 year olds.

A return to simplicity and concrete

93% of French people think that "doing it yourself" cheers up. DIY takes on the wrong codes of our modern society, whose sometimes hectic pace and somewhat dehumanized aspect detach us from the most concrete things. Creativity requires us to take a sensitive look at what surrounds us. Manual work brings us back to our most basic gestures, to the need to produce ourselves.

Creativity keeps active and independent for 93% of French people. DIY is a great way to express personal tastes, faced with the uniformity of models imposed by society. In addition, 88% of them see creativity as a way to fulfill themselves and develop pride in doing it yourself. Transforming the material, through DIY or creative hobbies for example, contributes to transforming yourself. This ability to create is fulfilling; it reintroduces activity into a daily life in which we are too often passive players. 86% of us affirm our vitality and our desire to undertake through creativity.

A refuge from the crisis

84% of French people see creativity as a way to get rid of the negative. Far from the concerns of everyday life, it is indeed essential as a bubble of tranquility, comforting. It reintroduces play and imagination, far from imperatives and automatisms. DIY is also a financial loophole, since it makes it possible to create objects at a lower cost, from raw materials or recycled elements. Meet at the Creations & Know-how Fair, from 13 to 17 November 2013 in Paris, Porte de Versailles. Nearly 300 exhibitors and 450 workshops will welcome more than 60,000 Do It Yourself enthusiasts.
